Welcome to Kaiser Permanente Performance Center! This is the first-of-its-kind, dual-purpose professional women’s basketball and soccer performance center and home of the Portland Fire and Portland Thorns.
Inside the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center
Designed as a facility that champions innovation and athletic excellence, the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center features a first of its kind elite training core, elevating the standard of athletic development by integrating cutting-edge training, advanced recovery, and holistic wellness with lifestyle elements specific to the needs of female athletes in a collaborative multi-team setting.
Purpose Driven Design
- The Kaiser Permanente Performance Center was designed by Governor of the Thorns and Fire, Lisa Bhathal Merage, with the support of Alex Bhathal, our athletes, Populous, and Hoffman Construction.
- The exterior is black by design, meant to represent the strong, hard exterior of the female athlete. Step inside and the palette turns soft and warm, representing the female athlete’s inner core. Every detail is built with the female athlete in mind, body, mind, and soul.
- The design is intentionally spa-like: calming, light, neutral tones, warm wood textures, and intentional lighting throughout. This building was built for women.
Kaiser Permanente
- Kaiser Permanente is the Official Medical Provider and Team Physicians for the Portland Thorns and Portland Fire, setting a new standard in medical care for elite women athletes.
- Both RAJ Sports and Kaiser Permanente are excited for this space to serve as a community asset, busy with both athlete and community programming year-round.
Kaiser Permanente Medical & Training Space: The idea behind the shared medical and training space is Collective Alchemy. A prominent analysis in exercise physiology found that only 6% of studies focused exclusively on female participants. The Kaiser Permanente Medical & Training Space is where the performance and medical staff for the Fire and Thorns can come together, exchange ideas, and support the athletes wholistically through performance, recovery, overall wellness, and support for life after play.
Lashify Lounge: The Lashify Lounge is a relaxed space for Fire team bonding or individual downtime. Lashify loves to provide the players with their DIY lash extension products. For example, Lashify provided all of the players with lashes for the first ever Fire reignited Media Day this season.
Nuna Mother’s Room: Built for the players and staff who are moms, the Nuna Mother’s Room is a place to feed their babies around practice, training, film sessions, recovery, or any other working mom responsibilities. Nuna has outfitted the family spaced with strollers, bouncers, and more.
The Forge presented by Nike: The Forge is the Fire and Thorns 5,000-square-foot dynamic strength training space with top-of-the-line equipment. All of the strength equipment is Nike Strength, the cardio equipment is Life Fitness, and the floor is Nike Grind, made from recycled Nike shoes. The Forge features an outdoor turf training zone and The Bloom Room (yoga/Pilates studio).
Dave’s Killer Bread Craving Station: This mobile snacking one-spot-stop features Dave’s Killer Bread’s famous bar, bites, and other snacks for Fire players 24/7.
Hyphn Furniture: The furniture throughout the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center is provided by Hyphn, reflecting the inviting, welcoming, right at home curated vision that can be felt throughout the building. Hyphn also provided much of the tech integrated into the Fire and Thorns office spaces and meeting rooms.
